Zagrebačka banka will start issuing new Mastercard debit cards from mid-April 2024. By the end of February 2025, all clients will receive a new Mastercard card, which has the same functionalities and benefits as the current Visa card, to their home address.

Allows its holder or authorized user to access the funds held in a multi-currency current or gyro account, or a account in euro.

With your debit card you can:

  • make contactless payments at points of sale in Croatia and abroad
  • make payments in webshops
  • make cash withdrawals at Zagrebačka banka ATMs free of charge
  • make cash withdrawals free of charge using your card for your giro account in euro at the UniCredit Group ATMs abroad for the Start, Smart, Superior service packages, Lepeza Package and Package for the Youth users (find them using m-zaba)
  • make cash withdrawals at ATMs of other banks in Croatia and abroad as well as at other points of withdrawal, with a fee
  • control your costs at any time via e-zaba and m-zaba or bank statements.

The card is issued automatically within accounts.

A multi-currency transaction account shall only be debited in EUR, irrespective of the payment/withdrawal currency and on the currency in the account.

The giro account in euro shall only be debited in euro.

It is necessary to open transaction accounts .

Activation

A non-activated card is delivered to your address and can be used after its activation, as described in the accompanying letter.
The activation differs depending on the card type and the reason for issuing the new card. Therefore, it can be activated in different ways:


  • online banking (e-zaba and m-zaba)
  • by using ZABA ATM
  • by using the automated answering service
  • in a branch of Zagrebačka banka.

Your card will be ready for use immediately after the activation.

IMPORTANT: To activate the contactless function, first you have to make at least one conventional transaction by inserting the card into an ATM (it is sufficient to check the account balance) or in a POS device at a point of sale.

Use

To receive a new PIN for your debit or credit card, visit the nearest branch or e-branch. You can check your card PIN any time in our mobile app (m-zaba) if you have arranged online banking.

Kindly visit a branch. Please also bring a document confirming the change and your ID card.

If you use a debit card issued on your current account in euros or your giro account in euros included in a Lepeza mogućnosti package, the Package for the Youth, od one of our service packages – Start, Smart or Superior, to withdraw cash abroad from ATMs of UniCredit Group member banks, the Bank will charge you no fees, in accordance with the Fee Tariff Decision. For transactions made using a debit card in Croatia or abroad your multi-currency account will be debited exclusively in EUR, regardless of the currency you have paid in or currencies on your account. If there are not enough funds or there are not enough funds in EUR, the account will be debited in other available currencies (considering the currency numeric code in the Bank´s exchange rate). The conversion of these currencies will be conducted in EUR using the exchange rate list for card transactions. The buying and selling rate of the currency on the day for debiting an account will be applied without additional charges for the conversion.

Upon receiving an account statement or notification of incurred costs, depending on the card type, please check the accuracy and completeness of the information on transactions immediately. A complaint needs to be filed to the Bank in writing right away, and no later than 13 months from the day the account is debited or the date of the notification of incurred costs, depending on the card type. Security

The card user is obliged to report a lost or stolen card immediately. He can do it 24/7 with the Bank stand-by service via tel.  01 3789 789 and confirm the report in writing in the nearest Bank branch. It is also possible to report a lost/stolen card in the branch.

Please adhere to the following pieces of advice:

  • Remember the PIN and never write it down on the card or other documents
  • Destroy the old card (it will suffice to cut it through the magnetic stripe) after the expiration date
  • Do not communicate the PIN or card data EVER to ANYONE
  • Do not leave the card in visible places (in the car, in a cloakroom, in a hotel room, restaurant, etc.)
  • Make sure to check the transaction amount prior to payment
  • After the payment, verify that the card returned to you is really yours
  • Keep our address and telephone number handy to be able to quickly report a lost or stolen card.
